Colombian Coffee
What is Colombian coffee?
Colombian coffee, as with any origin, is shaped by terroir, altitude and processing. Colombia’s warm climate and consistent rainfall create ideal conditions for steady, even cherry development. High-altitude farms, typically between 1,100 and 2,000 metres above sea level, combined with cooler temperatures, allow the coffee cherry to mature more slowly. This extended ripening contributes to the clarity, balance and complexity that Colombian coffee is known for.
At Bold Street Coffee, you can explore this through our range. Expect a syrupy, structured espresso in Los Pijao, or the vibrant fruit-forward cup of San Isidro, all sourced from smallholder producers working across Colombia’s volcanic, mountainous regions.

What makes Colombian coffee so special?
Single-origin coffee comes from a defined, traceable source such as a farm, producer or region.
Colombian coffee is most commonly processed using washed (wet) methods, where the fruit is removed, followed by controlled fermentation and washing.
This approach highlights clarity and structure in the cup, often resulting in profiles with floral aromatics, chocolate depth, layered fruit sweetness, nuts and gentle spice.
Processing is only part of the story. The high elevations of the Andes Mountains create cooler growing conditions, slowing cherry development and allowing sugars to fully form before harvest. The country’s volcanic soils also play a key role, contributing to both nutrient density and cup quality. Due to the steep, rugged terrain, mechanical harvesting is rarely possible. Instead, coffee is hand-picked, with careful selection of ripe cherry, ensuring quality and consistency at lot level.
At Bold Street Coffee, we aim to showcase that diversity. Expect chocolate-led, structured profiles from central and southern Huila, alongside brighter, fruit-forward coffees from regions like San Isidro. Whether you’re pulling a syrupy espresso or brewing a clean Hario V60, the result is a balanced, expressive cup.

Ready to taste what we’re talking about?
Los Pijao
Named after the indigenous Pijaos people, who originally inhabited the land and resisted Spanish colonisation in the 16th century.
Grown by smallholder producers in the renowned Huila region, these lots are selected through sensory analysis at origin to ensure consistency and quality.
In the cup, expect a syrupy body with a creamy texture and notes of milk chocolate, caramel and medjool dates.
Passiflora (Decaf)
A coffee you can return to at any time of day. Passiflora is decaffeinated at origin using the Natural Sugarcane E.A. process, preserving structure and sweetness while gently removing caffeine.
Roasted as an omni roast for both espresso and filter, it delivers a sweet, complex cup with low perceived acidity and a rounded profile.
San Isidro
San Isidro represents a classic Colombian profile, produced by Julio Bastidas, a young producer focused on quality and consistency.
Grown at high altitude in the Nariño region, this Castillo lot delivers a clean, structured cup with notes of roasted hazelnut, milk chocolate and candied orange.

Colombian Coffee FAQs
Is Colombian coffee always Arabica?
At BSC, all Colombian coffee we source is Arabica. More broadly, Colombia is known for producing exclusively Arabica coffee for export under the ‘Café de Colombia’ designation.
Like Champagne, where strict origin rules apply, this designation ensures quality and consistency at a national level.
Is Colombian coffee good for espresso?
Absolutely. Colombian coffee is well-suited to espresso due to its balance of acidity, sweetness and medium body.
Within the BSC range, Los Pijao is developed specifically for espresso, while Passiflora Decaf and San Isidro are omni roasts, designed to perform across both espresso and filter.
Why buy Colombian coffee from Bold Street?
We focus on the full journey of the coffee, from producer relationships at origin through to roast development.
Our approach centres on sourcing high-quality, traceable lots and roasting them with intent, ensuring clarity, balance and expression in the final cup.
Is Colombian coffee strong?
Not in terms of harshness or bitterness. Colombian coffee is typically balanced and sweet, with moderate acidity and a structured body.
Perceived strength is influenced more by roast development and brew method than origin alone.
