Fruity Coffee
What do we mean by fruity coffee?
If you didn’t know already, coffee is a fruit!
Before roasting, the fruity coffee you grind is a seed inside a sweet coffee cherry. When a cup naturally tastes juicy or sweet, these flavours aren’t added artificially; tasting notes come from the coffee’s terroir (the environment where it’s grown).
To experience the best fruity coffee, look for naturally processed beans from regions like Ethiopia or Colombia.
Sample our fruit-forward El Corazon for notes of papaya, melon and coconut, or, if you want something with Ice cream notes, El Jaragual (grown in the northern Colombian Andes) showcases coffee with fruity notes and a jasmine-passionfruit profile.

But how can you get the most from a brighter, juicier brew? V60/pour-over are excellent for bringing out the clarity in fruity coffee. If you’re looking for a slightly fuller, heavier body, AeroPress keeps all those fun fruit characteristics upfront.

FAQs
Is fruity coffee flavoured?
Usually not, but there are now a few exceptions. Most fruity coffees get their flavour naturally from the varietal, processing and terrier. Those vibrant notes of berries, tropical fruit or citrus come from the coffee itself, not from added flavourings.
However, a newer style of processing called ‘co-fermentation’ has become more common in recent years. During co-fermentation, ingredients such as fruit, spices or other natural products are introduced during fermentation to influence the coffee's flavour. These coffees can produce incredibly bold and unusual flavour profiles that wouldn't normally occur naturally.
At Bold Street Coffee, we clearly state when a coffee has been co-fermented, so you'll always know whether the flavours come purely from the coffee or have been enhanced through the processing method.
Is fruity coffee sour?
Nope! Good coffee with fruity notes has a bright, balanced acidity. Brightness is often part of the character, but sour usually means the brew needs adjusting.
Can I drink fruity coffee with milk?
Absolutely. While many delicate, floral coffees are best enjoyed black, some fruity coffees can be exceptional with milk. Coffees with bold notes of berries, tropical fruit or chocolate often create a sweet, vibrant cup that works surprisingly well in milk based drinks.
If you want to experience every nuance of a coffee's flavour, we recommend brewing it black as a filter coffee or pour over. But there are no rules. If you enjoy coffee with milk, go for it. The best way to drink coffee is the way you enjoy it.
