About the coffee:
CYATO Coffee is a premium 100% Red Bourbon coffee, grown at an altitude of 2,200 meters in the Nyamasheke District of Rwanda's CYATO sector. Processed by Tropic Coffee Company, the beans benefit from the region's cool climate, rich soils, and unique ecosystem near the Nyungwe Forest. The CYATO washing station, operating since 2017 and fully managed by Tropic Coffee since 2019, has the capacity to process over 300 metric tons of coffee cherries each season.
What sets CYATO Coffee apart is the influence of native honeybees from the Nyungwe Forest, which play a crucial role in pollination. These bees leave behind vital microorganisms during pollination, enhancing the coffee's flavour, size uniformity, and yield by up to 50%. This natural process, combined with the region's fertile black humus and sandy soil, contributes to the exceptional quality and taste of CYATO Coffee.
Tropic Coffee is committed to sustainable farming practices, avoiding synthetic fertilisers and pesticides to preserve the local ecosystem and protect the essential pollinators. Farmers in the region use traditional methods like mulching and careful weeding to maintain healthy coffee plants, ensuring that each cup of CYATO Coffee delivers a rich, robust flavour with a pleasant aroma, reflective of its high-altitude origins.
